Shawn M. Wollam
Shawn Wollam is one of central Ohio’s most well-respected workers’ compensation trial attorneys, committed to fighting on behalf of injured workers in counties across Ohio.
Shawn began his legal career as an Assistant Attorney General practicing in the workers’ compensation section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. He handled litigation at all state court levels, including county common pleas courts, the Tenth District Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of Ohio. He represented large state agencies at all levels, handling administrative hearings and court appeals, conducting jury trials, negotiating settlements, and managing a large caseload.
In 2007, Shawn found his true calling representing injured workers. He has gone toe-to-toe with big and small employers alike and the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation in thousands of cases at the administrative, Common Pleas Court, and appellate levels. While he continues to handle hearings before the Industrial Commission of Ohio, his strengths and passion are in the courtroom, fighting on behalf of clients in more than 60 county courts across the state. Shawn has taken scores of cases to jury trial with a success rate second to none. His tenacity, work ethic, and willingness to take on even the most well-funded defendants have made him a well-known name in courthouses throughout the state.
Because of his trial advocacy skills and track record of success, Shawn has been asked to present at seminars covering every aspect of workers’ compensation litigation, including settlement considerations, discovery and motion tactics, and presentation of evidence at trial, including expert witness cross-examination. He has been named a Workers’ Compensation Super Lawyer® in Ohio by Super Lawyers, having been designated as a Rising Star in 2018.
Shawn also represents disabled individuals in Social Security disability claims, handling hearings before Administrative Law Judges in Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia. By applying the skills he learned in workers’ compensation trials, he has persuasively presented cases for disability and effectively cross-examined medical and vocational experts in diligent pursuit of his clients’ interests.
Shawn earned a B.A. in Political Science from Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio in 2001. He received his Juris Doctor degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 2004. He is a member of the Ohio Association for Justice.
Outside the courtroom, Shawn enjoys spending time with his wife, Kim, whom he met in law school, and being actively engaged in his children’s activities, ranging from travel hockey and soccer to coaching volleyball. He also is an avid marathon runner. He and his family are members of St. Brendan the Navigator Parish in Hilliard, Ohio.
What Clients Are Saying About Shawn
“I started working with Shawn Wollam after my case proceeded to litigation. Shawn is a great communicator with timely responses to my calls and emails. He was extremely patient with me, and never made me feel ignored or demeaned as I am sure I asked him the same questions on multiple occasions as well as being rather emotional on some of our phone calls. I am dealing with the aftermath of a brain injury (memory loss, headaches, erratic emotions, and I cannot read or comprehend things quickly, etc.). I was relieved when Shawn didn’t make me feel more uncomfortable than I already felt. Shawn was very proactive in setting up phone calls and followed up on every piece of paperwork that was sent to me. He makes the time to communicate with me if I have any questions.”
